ROCHELLE — At Tuesday’s weekly meeting of the Rochelle Rotary Club, Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle made a presentation.
VanVickle spoke about the history of the role of a sheriff and how his office operates in conjunction with the county along the things it is responsible for other than policing, recent changes such as the new Ogle County Jail, emergency and 911 operations, how deputies police a county and what it’s been like to navigate recent challenges and changes in policing.
Following the presentation, VanVickle fielded questions from Rotary members in attendance, such as what sets his office apart from a municipal police department, how deputies cover an entire county, what calls are most common and how car cameras work and how body cameras will work in the future.
