Sheriff’s department contract approved

OREGON – The Ogle County Board on July 16 finally approved a new contract for the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department.
The new six-year deal covers about 70 people, said Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, including patrol deputies, corrections officers and “non-sworn” workers including office staff. They have all been working without a contract since Dec. 1, 2017.

The new contract includes pay increases of 2 percent for 2017-18; 2.5 percent for fiscal year 2018-19; and a 2.75 percent increase in each of the final four years.
VanVickle said the pay is retroactive, and that the union has already ratified the agreement, which focused on pay.
“Wages are always the No. 1concern,” he said. “That’s what the majority of the negotiations were in regards to.”
VanVickle said the new contract puts the pay in his department “right in line” with the industry standard.
