MORRIS — Freshman Emma Heller belted a two-run homer on Monday evening, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team continued Interstate 8 Conference play against Morris.

Behind a six-run effort in the bottom of the first inning, where the Redskins compiled six hits including a grand slam from Mylie Hughes, Morris defeated Rochelle 12-2 in five innings. The Lady Hubs (4-9, 0-5 Interstate 8) will continue conference play with a road game against Ottawa on Wednesday.

Morris held a 6-2 lead after the first inning, scoring on the grand slam from Hughes as well as a two-run double from lead-off hitter Cami Pfeifer. Rochelle opened the game with a 2-0 lead, though, scoring after freshman Camryn Metzger’s two-out double and Heller’s home run.

Halie Olson singled and scored on an error to give the Redskins a 7-2 advantage in the bottom of the second inning. Morris added another run on Pfeifer’s RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, giving the Redskins an 8-2 lead before Morris tallied four runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. The frame included an RBI double from Hughes as well as an RBI triple from Alyssa Jepson and RBI singles from Addy Hackett and Makenna Boyle.
