ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team got its bats going in the late innings on Wednesday, when the purple and white hosted Kaneland in Interstate 8 Conference action.

Rochelle tallied four runs over the final two innings, but the Lady Hubs fell in a deep hole early, as the Knights scored two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings before adding three runs in the seventh inning to hand the Lady Hubs a 10-5 loss. Rochelle (4-7, 0-4 Interstate 8) will return home for a nonconference matchup against Harvest Christian on Thursday evening.

Both teams tallied one run in the first inning, with Kaneland taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Graycin Slou before sophomore Madigan Williams walked and scored on a passed ball for the Lady Hubs in the bottom of the frame. Slou put the Knights back ahead 2-1 with an RBI groundout in the top of the second inning and Kaneland added another run in the top of the third inning, where Kaitlyn Congoran singled and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Gianna Cellini.

Kaneland extended its lead in the top of the fourth inning, tallying two runs on an RBI single from Angelina Campise and a sacrifice fly by Breanne Crosby. Campise’s RBI double sparked a two-run frame for the Knights in the top of the sixth inning, where Kaneland took a 7-1 lead before Rochelle responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring on an RBI single from freshman Emma Heller as well as a pair of fielding errors by the Knights.

Kaneland added three insurance runs on an RBI double from Slou and a two-run homer from Campise in the top of the seventh inning. Trailing 10-3, Rochelle tallied two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring on freshman Jaclynn Lira’s RBI single and Heller’s RBI double.
