The Rochelle Area Track Club traveled to Lake Park High School on Saturday for the 2024 Bob Nihells Youth Open. The event featured 23 track and field clubs from three states. Below are the notable results from the local athletes who participated in Saturday’s meet.

Local kids take home multiple first-place finishes

ROSELLE — The Rochelle Area Track Club traveled to Lake Park High School on Saturday for the 2024 Bob Nihells Youth Open. The event featured 23 track and field clubs from three states. Below are the notable results from the local athletes who participated in Saturday’s meet.

Landric Messer finished second in the 6-to-8 boys 100-meter dash with a time of 18.77 seconds and first in the 6-to-8 boys javelin throw with a distance of 13.32 meters. Elias Bergeson took first in the 6-to-8 boys long jump with a distance of 3.24 meters, second in the 6-to-8 boys 400-meter dash with a time of 1:34.43 and fourth in the 6-of-8 boys 100-meter dash with a time of 20.26 seconds. William Bettner finished first in the 6-to-8 boys shot put with a heave of 3.73 meters and finished fifth in the 6-to-8 boys long jump with a distance of 1.85 meters.

Josie Messer took first in the 6-to-8 girls javelin throw with a distance of 3.94 meters and 11th in the 6-to-8 girls 100-meter dash with a time of 20.09 seconds. Tate Bigelow finished first in the 9-to-10 boys 100-meter dash with a time of 15.06 seconds, first in the 9-to-10 boys 200-meter dash with a time of 32.34 seconds and first in the 9-to-10 boys high jump, clearing 1.13 meters. 

Cora Mickley took third in the 11-to-12 girls high jump with a height of 1.13 meters, sixth in the 11-to-12 girls 200-meter dash with a time of 36.30 seconds and ninth in the 11-to-12 girls 100-meter dash with a time of 16.64 seconds. Hakeem Olaniran placed third in the 11-to-12 boys 200-meter dash with a time of 33.92 seconds, third in the 11-to-12 boys high jump with a leap of 0.98 meters and sixth in the 11-to-12 boys 100-meter dash with a time of 16.03 seconds. 

Zachary Waddle finished first in the 11-to-12 boys shot put with a heave of 7.35 meters and first in the 11-to-12 boys discus with a mark of 19.69 meters. Hunter Bivins took second in the 15-to-16 boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.00 seconds, second in the 15-to-16 boys 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.19 and 10th in the 15-to-16 boys 200-meter dash with a time of 25.38 seconds.
