Hubs finish first and Lady Hubs take second on Tuesday evening

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams returned home for a coed Interstate 8 Conference meet against Ottawa and LaSalle-Peru on Wednesday evening. The Hubs won the meet with 100 points, while the Lady Hubs finished second with 78 points at the varsity level. Both teams will return to action at the Rocket Invitational in Rock Falls on Friday.

Hubs

Senior Luis Hernandez led Rochelle in the distance events on Wednesday, winning both the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:59.52 and the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:12.32. Senior Caleb Wyssbrod won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.94 seconds and senior Nathan Sergeant took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.92 seconds. Sophomore Wyatt Worthington led the Hubs in the hurdles, finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.82 seconds before taking third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.74 seconds.

Senior Storm Devers finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.51 and junior Chris Hickey finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.91. Junior Colton Czekala and senior Landon Mickley led Rochelle in the throwing events, with Czekala winning the shot put behind a PR of 14.24 meters and Mickley taking second in the discus with a mark of 39.70 meters. Sophomore Andrew Nuyen won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.11 meters.

Rochelle shined in the jumping events, where junior Jack Tilton won the high jump with a clearance of 1.75 meters and junior Virgil O’Dell won the long jump with a mark of 5.68 meters. Senior Nathan Sergeant won the triple jump with a PR mark of 12.48 meters.

The Hubs won all four relay events on Wednesday, finishing first in the 400-meter relay (Caden Goodwin, Reece Harris, Virgil O’Dell and Jackson Smith) with a time of 46.26 seconds and the 800-meter relay (Caden Goodwin, Reece Harris, Virgil O’Dell and Caleb Wyssbrod) with a time of 1:36.36. Rochelle won the 1600-meter relay (Irving Escalante, Jackson Smith, Chris Hickey and Caleb Wyssbrod) with a time of 3:49.55 and the 3200-meter relay (Juan Gaytan, Carlos Olazagasti, Christopher Castellanos and Alexavier Villatoro) with a time of 11:36.09.

Lady Hubs

Sophomores Annaliese Koziol and Rose Luxton led Rochelle in the distance events, with Koziol winning the 3200-meter run in 13:30.85 and Luxton winning the 1600-meter run in 6:18.49. Sophomore Kyrie Cragin was Rochelle’s lead hurdler, finishing third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.38 and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 21.37 seconds. Koziol also finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:55.09 for the Lady Hubs.

Senior Kylie Smith and junior Arline Villanueva went first and second in the 400-meter dash with respective times of 1:11.59 and 1:11.71. Freshman Elyse Manning and junior Dempsey Atkinson went second and third in the 100-meter dash with respective times of 14.05 and 14.18 seconds. Junior Alex Neece took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 31.73 seconds.

Rochelle won two field events on Wednesday, with junior Dempsey Atkinson claiming the high jump behind a clearance of 1.40 meters and senior Kyra Bivins taking the discus with a throw of 30.89 meters. Junior Erin Murphy finished second in the shot put with a heave of 9.04 meters and sophomore Kyrie Cragin finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.05 meters. Sophomore Rose Luxton and freshman Elyse Manning led in the jump pits, with Luxton taking third in the long jump at 4.17 meters and Manning taking third in the triple jump at 8.86 meters.

The Lady Hubs won two relay events on Wednesday, finishing first in the 400-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Zoe White, Elyse Manning and Kylie Smith) with a time of 56.25 seconds and the 800-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Zoe White, Elyse Manning and Katie Toczylowski) with a time of 2:01.37. Rochelle took second in the 1600-meter relay (Kyrie Cragin, Carmela Bright, Arline Villanueva and Kylie Smith) with a time of 4:41.04 and second in the 3200-meter relay (Rose Luxton, Mary Chadwick, Brisa Zepeda and Carmela Bright) with a time of 12:10.26.
