CHANA — Wladyslaw “Wally” Malyszek, 74, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, Oct. 18. Wally was born on Jan. 5, 1947 to Wincent and Wladyslawa (Bzowy) Malyszek in Walbrzych, Poland.

On April 30, 1993, he married Grace Josefina in Wheaton. He drove a truck for a company in Chicago that delivered the glass for the construction of the Sears Tower (Willis Tower). Later he became a roofer for many years and then after 9/11 he went back to driving a truck until his retirement in 2011.

During retirement, Wally enjoyed working on cars especially for other people at no charge. The joy was in the challenge of fixing the problem even to the detriment of losing sleep to figure it out. He became an armchair weatherman; he was always watching the Weather Channel. Wally loved animals and many friends and acquaintances soon realized that those unwanted dogs and cats could have a home with him.

Wally is survived by his wife, Grace, of Chana; daughter, Isabel Malyszek of Virginia; two grandchildren: Jeffrey Malyszek of Bloomingdale, Illinois and Veronica Malyszek of Virginia and sister-in-law Dorota (Bartlomiej) Bardzinski of Mt. Morris.

In addition to his parents, Wally is preceded in death by his son, Edward Malyszek; two brothers: Zygmunt and Edward Malyszek and two sisters: Zofia Kanak and Celina Staron.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Dr., Rochelle with Father Kramer officiating. Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Wally’s family to help with the funeral expenses. Visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
