The Rochelle Wrestling Club competed at the 2021 Stillman Valley Wrestling Club Holiday Tournament on Sunday. Thirteen Junior Hub wrestlers participated in the tournament over the weekend, with three wrestlers bringing home first-place finishes.

Three wrestlers take home first-place finishes

STILLMAN VALLEY — The Rochelle Wrestling Club competed at the 2021 Stillman Valley Wrestling Club Holiday Tournament on Sunday. Thirteen Junior Hub wrestlers participated in the tournament over the weekend, with three wrestlers bringing home first-place finishes.

Nehemiah Andronic finished first in the 56-59 Tots Division bracket with a 3-0 record. Andronic scored back-to-back pins against Stillman Valley’s Gunnar Hall and Gavin Provancher before facing Dixon’s Carter Bilharz in the final round, winning the title with a 16-1 technical fall.

Gavin Smith took first in the 63-66 Bantam Division bracket with a 3-0 record. Smith scored a 14-5 major decision against Oregon’s Owen Martin before defeating DeKalb’s Jax Lovett by 12-6 decision. Smith topped Dixon’s Carson Alba by 14-6 major decision for the championship.

Vaughn Manning placed first in the 65-69 Intermediate Division bracket with a 3-0 record. Manning opened the tournament with a 14-0 major decision over Stillman Valley’s Grace Hamill before outlasting Huntley’s Anthony Pharis with a 5-0 decision in the second round. Manning battled DeKalb’s Christopher Rodriguez for the title, scoring a 45-second fall for the victory.

Elias Andronic finished second in the 43-45 Tots Division bracket with a 2-1 record. Andronic won by fall over Rock Falls’ Owen Dorathy and Rowan Hunsberger to reach the championship match against Woodstock’s Landon Menard, who edged Andronic out with a 6-2 decision.

Wells Millard took second in the 44-46 Tots Division bracket with a 2-1 record. Millard opened the tournament with a first-round pin against Rock Falls’ Ryker Kuehl before falling to Stillman Valley’s Benson Grugel. Millard scored a 15-3 major decision against Amboy’s Gabriel Larson.

Felix Belmonte placed second in the 55-57 Bantam Division bracket with a 2-1 record. Belmonte recorded a 15-0 technical fall over Dixon’s Rogyn Plock before conceding a 10-2 major decision to Rock Falls’ Myles Goodell. Belmonte topped Sycamore’s Grant Cole by 14-5 major decision.

Teddy Millard took second in the 61-64 Intermediate Division bracket with a 2-1 record. Millard won by fall over Oregon’s Boe Bastian before coming up just short in a 4-0 decision to Orland Park’s Jimmy Roach. Millard then grinded for a 5-3 decision against Byron’s Darien Whitlock.

Benjamin Morris finished second in the 117-134 Intermediate Division with a 1-1 record. Morris won by fall over Stillman Valley’s Justin Cheeseman before falling to Dixon’s Levi Pretzsch.

Elliot Huff placed third in the 53-54 Bantam Division bracket with a 1-2 record, winning by fall over Stillman Valley’s Eduardo Durand in the third round. Dominic Escatel took third in the 67-68 Bantam Division bracket with a 1-2 record, earning a 4-3 decision against DeKalb’s Alban Becker in the second round.

Quentin Ansteth finished third in the 87-90 Intermediate Division with a 1-2 record, scoring an 11-8 decision over Stillman Valley’s Sergio Diaz in the third round. Cole Albers placed fourth in the 64-68 Bantam Division bracket. Garrett Miller placed fifth in the 104-112 Intermediate Division bracket.
