Wrestling: Forge athletes clash at 2024 USA Wrestling Central Region Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Forge Wrestling Club sent 13 athletes to the 2024 USA Wrestling Central Region Freestyle & Greco-Roman Championships at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum over the weekend. The club earned five regional titles across the two disciplines.

Greco-Roman

Kaiden Morris finished first in the Junior 215 Division with a 3-0 record. Morris opened the tournament with a 9-0 technical fall over Ohio’s Jason Grime in the quarterfinal round and an 11-3 technical fall over Illinois wrestler Eric Harris in the semifinal round. Morris clinched the regional championship with an 8-3 decision against Minnesota’s John Petersen.

Darek Diaz finished first in the 10U 56 Division with a 3-0 record. Diaz scored a 10-0 technical fall over Indiana’s Kaleb Leitch before notching back-to-back 8-0 technical falls against Indiana’s Sawyer Reed and Indiana’s Leyton Boyd to clinch the regional championship.

Elias Andronic finished first in the 8U 56 Division with a 2-0 record. Andronic recorded 8-0 technical falls over Minnesota’s Curry Campbell and Ohio’s Dalton Howell for the title.

Brenden Voight took second in the 16U 157 Division with a 3-1 record, earning a 12-2 technical fall over Ohio’s Virgil McVicker and a 14-5 technical fall over Illinois wrestler Trace Wilson to start the tournament. Voight reached the finals with a 9-4 decision over Minnesota’s Eli Roe.

Eoghan Good finished third in the 8U 49 Division and Nehemiah Andronic finished third in the 10U 71 Division. Joshua Lassiter went 2-2 in the 16U 144 Division, recording a 9-0 technical fall over Ohio’s Chase Godwin and a 14-3 technical fall over Ohio’s Trace Johnson.

Keagan Albers went 1-2 in the 16U 126 Division, scoring a consolation-round fall over Indiana’s Owen McCann. Teddy Millard went 1-2 in the 12U 74 Division, notching a 10-0 technical fall over Ohio’s Jeremiah Walbom. 

Freestyle

Darek Diaz finished first in the 10U 56 Division with a 3-0 record, scoring back-to-back 10-0 technical falls against Indiana’s Leyton Boyd and Indiana’s Kaleb Leitch before defeating Ohio’s Teddy Lopez with a fall. Elias Andronic finished first in the 8U 56 Division with a 10-0 technical fall over Ohio’s Cole Kallai and a 20-7 technical fall over Minnesota’s Curry Campbell.

Dempsey Atkinson took second in the Junior Girls 145 Division with a 2-1 record, securing back-to-back falls over Wisconsin’s Sophia Paulson and Illinois wrestler Nina Aceves. Nehemiah Andronic took second in the 10U 71 Division, scoring a 12-0 technical fall over Minnesota’s Bayden Evans and a 6-4 decision over Indiana’s Bennett Silence.

Eoghan Good finished fourth in the 8U 49 Division and Kaiden Morris went 3-2 in the Junior 215 Division, winning via 14-1 technical fall over Ohio’s Jason Grime as well as a 10-0 technical fall over Minnesota’s Cayden Bell and a 19-8 technical fall over Indiana’s Caleb Evans. Brenden Voight went 1-2 in the 16U 157 Division with a 18-9 decision over Ohio’s Ja’Shaun Cade.

Aidan Lopez went 3-2 in the 16U 120 Division, notching a 10-0 technical fall over Indiana’s Tyler Wiley as well as a fall over Kentucky’s Anthony Watts and a 14-6 decision over Minnesota’s Keagen Elliott.
