A feast to benefit local children's network

ROCHELLE — Bring your appetites and enjoy some delicious eats at the 3rd Annual Rochelle Community Action Network Food Truck Festival on Saturday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Several local foods will be featured including Tacos al Pastor, Ralfie’s BBQ, Hicks BBQ, and Turtlebake Cookies & Gifts. Guests can also learn more about the Red Nose Program sponsored by Walgreens.

The event raises funds for the organization, which provides resources to assist children and families in the community. CAN has given away hundreds of backpacks filled with supplies for Rochelle Elementary students each year before their annual trek back to school. Rounding out the backpacks are books donated from the Flagg-Rochelle Township Library.

For over 20 years, CAN members have hosted the annual Christmas Shopping Trip for local children. A volunteer helps a child to choose items such as an outfit, snow pants, hat, gloves, pajamas, and a toy, proving to be a delight for the volunteers just as much as the children.

And also for the past several years CAN has been working with Operation Warm Coats, to date providing almost 400 new coats to children during the annual shopping trip.

CAN board president Michelle Pease is thankful for the support of the community, which in turn helps provide the needed resources for young children and their families.

“The community has received the new event very well,” Pease said. “Our goal is to grow the event each year, bringing in new food trucks with a variety of foods.”
