Barber Shop a “buzz” for the first ever fundraiser earlier this week

ROCHELLE — Vinny’s Barber Shop was busier than usual this past Tuesday as customers and members of the community helped to raise money for school supplies to benefit local students.
Vinny Perez and Fernando Serrano donated all proceeds from the day, over $650, which was used to buy all kinds of supplies needed for Rochelle Elementary District students to start the school year off with.
The amount collected far exceeded the goal of $400 set. Customers and members of the community donated supplies as well.
“I’m so happy, this turned out really well,” Perez said. “We really appreciate the outpouring of support from our customers and the community.”

On Thursday, Perez and Serrano happily pointed to the stacks of paper, folders, notebooks, crayons, and glue bottles lined up. The supplies are scheduled to be picked up and hand delivered to the schools just in time for the first day on Monday.
Perez discussed possible ideas for next year’s event such as holding a raffle to increase fundraising.
“It’s been a great day…we will do this again next year. I would like to give a special thanks to my customers,” added Perez.
