But after falling in the first two games of the series, the Hubs suffered their third consecutive loss to Sterling this past Thursday, losing by a score of 7-1 to drop to 13-6 overall. The Golden Warriors clinched the NIB-12 West championship with the sweep.

STERLING — The Rochelle varsity baseball team needed only one victory to avoid losing the Northern Illinois Big 12 West title to the Sterling Golden Warriors this past week. But after falling in the first two games of the series, the Hubs suffered their third consecutive loss to Sterling this past Thursday, losing by a score of 7-1 to drop to 13-6 overall. The Golden Warriors clinched the NIB-12 West championship with the sweep.
Sterling took a 2-0 lead after two walks and an error by the Hubs in the bottom of the second inning. The Golden Warriors loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning before walking one run home and plating two more on a groundout. An RBI single put Sterling ahead 6-0 entering the fifth inning.
Junior Gavin Ansteth drove an RBI double to center that scored Rochelle’s first run in the top of the sixth inning. Sterling added one run in the bottom of the sixth inning after Dylan Bryant reached on a dropped third strike and scored on an error. The Hubs totaled three errors in the game and nine errors in the series.
