MAPLE PARK — Freshman Emma Heller held the Kaneland offense in check on Monday, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team battled the Knights in Interstate 8 action.
Heller controlled the circle throughout the game, throwing all seven innings while striking out seven batters and limiting Kaneland to one unearned run on three hits. Rochelle was unable to avoid the shutout, however, as sophomore Madigan Williams singled for the team’s only hit in a 1-0 loss to the Knights. Rochelle (4-14, 0-9 Interstate 8) will conclude its Interstate 8 Conference schedule with a home matchup against the Morris Redskins on Wednesday evening.
Kaneland’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning, where Corinne Pugh singled and scored on a fielder’s choice grounder from Sam Dennis. Freshmen Camryn Metzger and Dylan Etes each drew walks for the Lady Hubs, who totaled just three baserunners in the loss.
