Due to the culmination of rain and the forecast for the days ahead in the Ogle County area, conditions have lead moderate to severe flooding with the expectation of more flooding until Monday, June 25.
According to the National Weather Service, the Rock River is estimated to rise to 14.3 ft. by Sunday morning in the Byron area.
The Ogle County Health Department in conjunction with Ogle County Emergency Management offer these cautions:
To protect you and your family during flooding:
• Do Not wade or swim through flooded areas as they may contain harmful debris or be electrically charged due to down wires. Due to sewer overflow flood water may also contain bacteria and other materials that can lead to a risk of water borne diseases.
• If your water supply is not safe or if you have concerns your water well has been over topped. Use only bottled or disinfected water for drinking, cooking, dishwashing and bathing.
• Avoid driving through flooded roadways. Just six inches of moving water can knock you down and one foot of moving water can sweep away a vehicle.
• Find alternate routes to important locations and know evacuation routes.
• Stay tuned into to local news station and authorities for information and instructions.
