ROCHELLE — Connie Dougherty admits she was caught off guard with the news early Monday.
The Rochelle resident is the first to receive recognition in a new program launched last month by the Cultivating Community committee.
The “Recognizing Remarkable Residents” program allows members of the community to nominate a resident who they believe is doing remarkable things.
“I am surprised and I feel humbled … there are so many remarkable people in Rochelle,” Dougherty beamed. “I have lived here all of my life; I love Rochelle and I love my community. Thank you to whoever nominated me.”
Dougherty received several prizes including gift certificates from local businesses and a dozen Sunshine Bakery cupcakes.
“Connie was just announced as our first Remarkable Resident winner,” said Samantha Barkus, Cultivating Community committee member. “Connie was nominated for her dedication and hard work as the director of the Hub City Senior Center as well as her ‘positive outlook, bright personality and willingness to always go above and beyond for her community and their residents’.”
Barkus, along with committee members Stephanie Williams, Jacob Becker, Jeff Fiegenschuh and Manish Patel will present Dougherty with the award at the city council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
“Our mission is to highlight and recognize good people doing good things while encouraging and inspiring others to do the same,” said Barkus.
To nominate a remarkable resident, complete the Facebook application on the Rochelle Retail Advisory Board’s page and follow the return instructions. Nomination forms are also available at the Coyote radio station’s website, 1023TheCoyote.com, or at Query Insurance Division of Crum-Halsted, Sunshine Bakery, 102.3 The Coyote, and Rochelle City Hall.
The program is sponsored by Query Insurance Division of Crum-Halsted and 102.3 The Coyote.
