ROCHELLE – It’s summer and there’s nothing better than spending the day fishing! At the museum we won’t be going to the lake and baiting our hook but we will be celebrating fishing and summer with an exhibit of fishing gear collected by local enthusiast Marv Jenner.

On Sunday, June 27 at 1 p.m. Jenner will be at the museum for a reception with many fish stories to share, you know, the stories about the big ones that got away.

Jenner’s fishing experiences span his lifetime and often took him to Canada as well as Alaska, and into countries around the world, returning often to the local fishing holes. He’s sure to tell the story of the 100-pound spoonbill catfish he caught from the Mississippi and how it ended up not being the state record at that time.

The “Gone…fishing” exhibit is on display at the museum during June and July. Coming in August is “Miss Rochelle…now gone from Rochelle.”

The mission of the Flagg Township Historical Society and Museum is to stimulate interest in Flagg Township history through education, research, collection and preservation of information for the benefit of the public of today and in the future.
