Former school librarian publishes children’s book

Tobler to hold book signing

For Pam Tobler, the inspiration to write a book came from working in the library at the old Lincoln School. The Kings resident is now a published author of “Lily the Ladybug.”

“Lily the Ladybug is the story of a ladybug who has lost her spots,” Tobler began. “She goes on an adventure through nature as she makes new friends, teaches counting and uses her manners all while searching for her missing black spots. And for some good luck, she wears a four-leaf clover necklace, which represents my four sons.”

A few years ago, Tobler had the opportunity to meet her favorite children’s author, Jan Brett, who also lent inspiration to start writing.

The process from finding an illustrator who brought Tobler’s visions to life along with reviewing and finalizing the illustrations and finalizing the story took about two years.

She also found out many publishers require an agent — changing the course slightly to self-publish the book.

Book signing

Once the first shipment of books arrived, Tobler’s sister offered to host a book signing, which is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. at 11895 E. Bethel Road, Kings.

Tobler admits she is excited for her first book signing.

“I am very blessed to have received so much support from family and friends, especially my husband, Steve, who unfortunately passed away before it got published, and my sons, Brian, Jeffrey, Daniel and Adam,” Tobler said. “You will notice throughout the book how much our farm is portrayed and represented. Creating this book has been a fun adventure and I hope everyone enjoys Lily as much as I had bringing her to the page.”

Adding, “I have ideas in my head of how to continue Lily’s story and am beginning that process now. You just never know where Lily will end up.”
