KINGS — Basketball, food, entertainment, auctions, and raffles all made for an evening of fun at Kings School Spirit Night last Thursday.
The main event of the night was the eighth grade students playing basketball against the teachers. The game also featured crowd participation games during intermission.
Event coordinator Niki Adamski said the idea for Spirit Night came last year to raise funds to get the school’s gymnasium painted. The evening proved to be a huge success with overwhelming support from the community so the decision was made to have a second event.
“We had a really nice turnout with some familiar faces and some old friends,” Adamski said of last Thursday’s Spirit Night. “We are so lucky to have such great community support and it is great to see the kids that used to walk these halls return for these events.”
Along with the staff versus student basketball game, the evening also included a live auction featuring “Staff Superpowers,” with different activities the staff donated that the crowd could bid on. These included private fitness classes, basketball mini camp, cooking lessons, private art classes, and baseball lessons.
New this year was the Student Athlete Work Day auction event. Guests placed bids through a silent auction for the designated workday on April 22, raising funds to be used for the school’s athletic program.
“We have approximately 15 of our fifth through eighth graders that were ‘auctioned off’ to do anything from window washing to spring yard cleaning,” Adamski explained. “These kids, with the help of John Bearrows and an amazing community, raised over $1,000. We can’t wait to put these kids to work for the community that supports them.”
Adamski said now after a second successful Spirit Night, this will be an annual event.
