HILLCREST — No one suffered any injuries Saturday afternoon after smoke filled a home in the Village of Hillcrest.
At approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, the Rochelle Fire Department was called for a possible structure fire in the 300 block of Jeffrey Avenue.
Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville was one of the first responders on scene and said smoke was visible coming from inside the home.
Firefighters from Rochelle, Hillcrest and Flagg Center arrived on scene and quickly checked the home’s attic where it was believed the smoke was coming from.
No fire was found in the attic.
The problem was caused by malfunction involving the furnace at the residence. Cost damage is estimated to be approximately $5,000.
