OTTAWA, Ontario — Aubrey Headon has achieved many impressive feats throughout her athletic career, but the Rochelle Township High School student received one of her greatest honors this past month, when she was invited to celebrate Canada’s 150-year history and compete for the United States in the 2017 Canadian Track and Field Championships.
The Paralympic standout competed in two events including the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She took eighth overall with a time of 19.37 seconds in the 100-meter race while clocking in at 42.73 in the 200-meter sprint to place seventh overall.
“Getting to represent the U.S. again was great,” Headon said. “My races went well. My 200-meter race came down to the wire as I beat my competitor by one step. My favorite part about sharing the track with other Paralympic athletes and Olympic athletes was watching them congratulate each other and cheer on their teammates.”
While Headon enjoyed her time on the track, she also soaked in the culture off the track. She cruised through downtown Ottawa, and she stopped by several Canadian landmarks including the Canadian War Memorial. With the track and field event behind her, Headon is gearing up to make a run for the state swimming meet through the IHSA.
“The entire experience was great,” Headon said.
