ROCHELLE — A new reporter and feature writer has joined the Rochelle News-Leader staff.
Publisher John Shank announced that Andrew Heiserman began in his new position on Monday, May 13.
“We are pleased to be adding Andrew to the writing team,” Shank said. “He is a recent Northern Illinois University graduate with local experience covering news and telling human interest stories.”

Heiserman, who grew up in Algonquin, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and minored in communications.
“I have been trained to cover and write stories on most any subject, but I enjoy covering local news and also writing feature articles,” Heiserman said. “During my time at NIU I have taken many classes, completed work for the Northern Television Center and interned at the local NPR news radio station, WNIJ.”
In addition to his general duties at the radio station, Heiserman also completed many feature stories and many other short articles, including features in Rochelle.
“It was through the internship that I made the connections for the position at the Rochelle News-Leader,” he added. “I am looking forward to getting to know Rochelle and I am very excited to be meeting the people of the community and informing and engaging with them on the important happenings in their town.”
Heiserman can be reached by phone at 815-561-2150 or by email at aheiserman@rochellenews-leader.
“Andrew has a very friendly, outgoing personality and will be a nice fit for our community and our staff,” Shank added.
