ROCHELLE — Rochelle Township High School will officially withdraw from the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference following approval by board members Monday night.
A resolution was approved by a 6-0 vote to withdraw from the current conference and officials will move forward to join the Interstate 8 Conference, effective the next school year.
Several other schools will leave the NI Big 12 as well, including Ottawa, La-Salle-Peru, Morris and Geneseo.
RTHS, along with the four schools will join Plano and Sandwich in the I-8 conference.
During Monday night’s meeting, superintendent Jason Harper explained to board members the change is prompted by declining RTHS enrollment as well as striving for a competitive balance during sports matches.
