The Rochelle Township High School Hubs speech team placed fourth on Saturday at the RTHS Speech Invitational. Twenty-four schools competed and Mallory Leininger was designated Speaker of the Week.

Hubs earn six first place finishes at speech meet

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Township High School Hubs speech team placed fourth on Saturday at the RTHS Speech Invitational. Twenty-four schools competed and Mallory Leininger was designated Speaker of the Week.
Varsity division finalists
Mallory Leininger, first place in Humorous Interpretation and fourth place in Original Comedy; Nephy Valle won first place in Special Occasion Speaking and Judy Fulgencio took first place in the Poetry Reading (B Finals).  
Cara Forsberg, second place in Radio Speaking and sixth place in Informative Speaking; Nikos and Baxter Konstans, third place in Humorous Duet Acting. In the B finals, Baxter was third place in Humorous Interpretation.

Judy Fulgencio placed fourth in Prose Reading; James Hart placed fourth in Radio Speaking; Jessie Ellis placed fifth in Dramatic Interpretation; and Maddie Ohlinger placed sixth place in Prose Reading.
Jessie Ellis and Justin Julian finished second in Dramatic Duet Acting (B Finals); Julian took fourth in Impromptu Speaking (B Finals); and Charlotte Laukel finished in second place in Special Occasion Speaking (B Finals).
Fifth place ribbons were awarded to Caitlin McMurray in Informative Speaking (B Finals), Ava Coglianese in Special Occasion Speaking (B Finals), and to Ariel Zuercher in Oratorical Declamation (B Finals).
Joe Worthington and Maggie Duval teamed up for a seventh place finish in Humorous Duet Acting (B Finals).
Novice Division
Lauren Ponto earned first place in Prose Reading; Annette Gonzalez was first place in Informative Speaking; Angela Zamarron earned second place in Poetry Reading; Megan Thiravong earned second place in Humorous Interpretation; Ariel Zuercher and Heidi Cruz was fourth place in Dramatic Duet Acting; Lauren Ponto and Candace McMurray earned fifth place in Humorous Duet Acting; and Nick Whisman earned a pair of fifth place ribbons in Extemporaneous and Impromptu Speaking.
