OTTAWA — It may have been a month later, but the Hubs varsity baseball team finally exacted its revenge on the Ottawa Pirates, taking the third of a three-game set by a score of 6-2 Monday evening in a rescheduled conference contest to improve to 11-12-1 on the season.

The victory comes after Rochelle split a doubleheader with the Plano Reapers this past Saturday. The Hubs will face Dixon on Tuesday in their last game of the regular season.

Plano

Senior Cristian Burciaga belted three home runs and drove in five runs during Saturday’s opener against the Reapers, but it wouldn’t be enough to bring home a win, as Plano held on to defeat Rochelle by a score of 9-8. Sophomore Johnny Beck singled twice and scored three runs, while senior Kyle Seebach followed up Burciaga’s home run in the sixth inning with a blast of his own.

While the first game of the doubleheader was a close affair, the second game was all Rochelle, with the Hubs dominating from the start and cruising to a 17-1 victory. Three hitters left the yard in the win including Seebach, Beck and senior Matt Albers. Beck led the offense with five RBIs, with Albers adding four RBIs and senior Sam Christensen singling three times and driving in two runs.

Ottawa

Leading 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Rochelle tallied four runs in the top of the frame beginning with a walk by junior Brendon Danekas and a single by junior teammate Noah Mershon. Beck singled after a fielder’s choice grounder by senior Caleb Gould, who struck out four batters en route to earning the win on the pitcher’s mound, and Seebach doubled to center with two outs to drive in three Hub runners.

Rochelle’s first two runs came in the top of the third inning, with Christensen singling with one out and Gould reaching base on a hit-by-pitch. Beck drove both boys in on a double to center, with the sophomore coming around on a single to right by Seebach.
