ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lions Club annual Rose Day campaign is underway and the organization is now accepting donations and orders.
Rose Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 6. All roses ordered can be picked up anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the alley behind Colonial Flower Shoppe, 408 Lincoln Highway in downtown Rochelle.
A dozen roses is $18 and is available in red, yellow, pink and coral. Delivery service is available.
“The Rose Day is our biggest fundraiser,” said Tom Hill, Lions Club member. “With the community’s donations, we can help support several activities and programs. Everyone seems to be pleased each year with our roses. It’s a good fundraiser.”
The fundraiser helps support scholarships to Rochelle Township High School seniors, the visually and hearing impaired, Leader Dog training, Camp Lions for blind and deaf children, Little League sponsorships and other non-profit programs and projects.
Naomi Baldwin, owner of Colonial Flower Shoppe, purchases the flowers through a wholesaler and passes the savings to the Lions Club. The alley directly behind her flower shop is an ideal location on the day of pickup.
Roses can be ordered ahead of time at Colonial Flower Shoppe, 815-562-8101; hours are Monday through Friday 9 to 4 p.m., Saturday 9 to 1 p.m.; and by calling Lion Tom Hill at 815-980-8788 or Lion Doyle Curtis at 815-561-6483.
