ROCHELLE — There will be plenty of fun Wednesday on the Fourth of July in the “Hub City,” including a parade in the morning and activities, food, music and fireworks at Cooper and Atwood parks later in the day and evening.
The parade will kick-off in downtown Rochelle at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The route begins at Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue, will turn right on Lincoln Highway, right on Lincoln Avenue, right on Ninth Street, left on 10th Avenue and end at Cooper Park.
The Rochelle Moose will be selling pork chop sandwiches in the parking lot south of the building, located at Main St. and Cherry Ave., from 1 to 5 p.m. on the 4th of July to benefit Pegasus Special Riders.

The charge for sandwiches with sides will be $6. All gross proceeds will go to benefit Pegasus. In the event of rain, the sandwiches will be served from the alley door.
Beginning at 5 p.m. the City of Rochelle and the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District will be providing music, food and family fun events at Cooper Park for several hours leading up to the fireworks.
“We are excited to partner with the park district to offer more family entertainment on the Fourth,” City of Rochelle marketing and public relations director Jenny Thompson said. “The popular local band Soapstone will play at 5 p.m. and we will have bounce houses for kids, and food for everyone, inclduing Ralfies BBQ, El Senor de los Tacos and Turtlebake Cookies.”
The Rochelle Municipal Band will perform beginning at 8 p.m. leading to the start of the fireworks.
“It will be a fun day for families and we invite everyone to come out and enjoy the day,” Thompson said. “We would also like to remind residents that the bike path extension to the west of 20th Street will be closed on the Fourth as the Rochelle Fire Department will be setting up for the fireworks.”
