An Oregon man involved in a burglary in Mt. Morris early Monday morning died after suffering injuries in a car crash fleeing from the scene.

Man dies following alleged burglary

On Monday, March 18 at approximately 1 a.m., an Ogle County deputy was responding to a burglary call in Mt. Morris. The deputy observed an SUV traveling eastbound on IL Route 64 between Mt. Morris and Oregon which was traveling at a high rate of speed. The deputy turned around to follow the vehicle and found it crashed in the 1700 block of West Washington Street (commonly known as Liberty Hill).

A male subject, later identified as Jason A. Marks, 44, Oregon, fled the scene of the accident on foot. The Oregon Police Department responded to investigate the crash.

Joshua W. Denning, 34, of Oregon, was located outside of the vehicle which had rolled several times. Denning was transported to KSB by Oregon Ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

Ogle County Sheriff’s Department accident reconstructionist were called to the scene to assist the Oregon Police Department with the accident investigation.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Oregon officers were called to the area of Fifth and Franklin Street for an unconscious male laying in the yard. The male was identified as Jason Marks. Marks was transported to a Rockford Hospital for a medical evaluation by Oregon Ambulance. Marks was subsequently arrested by Mt. Morris Police Department and transported to the Ogle County jail.

Based on additional information gathered from this incident Oregon Police Department charged Jason Marks with burglary from a motor vehicle, a Class 2 Felony, from an incident which had occurred in the 300 block of North 4th Street in Oregon on Jan. 8.
