An Aurora man has been identified as the fatality in an early Monday morning accident on Interstate 39 just south of Steward in Lee County.

LEE COUNTY — Illinois State Police continue to investigate a pedestrian fatality that occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 on Interstate 39 southbound at milepost 92 in Lee County, just south of Steward.
A preliminary investigation indicates Savanah J. Berry, 25, of Mendota, was traveling southbound in a 2018 Toyota RAV4 SUV when she struck pedestrian Juan Moreno, 35, of Aurora, who was in the roadway. Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to State Police, there was no vehicle located in the area associated with Moreno and it is unknown how he arrived at that location.
The southbound lane of Interstate 39 was closed for several hours. Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Rochelle Fire and Ambulance and the Lee County Coroner’s Office assisted ISP at the scene.
