ROCHELLE — Although the summer season officially starts in a few weeks, Rochelle’s summer concert series “Music in the Park” begins this Wednesday.
Each year, the City of Rochelle’s Municipal Band entertains the crowds with their concerts in the band shell at Atwood Park. The first concert is Wed., June 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Municipal band director Ron Duval said the band is scheduled to play mostly every other Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., rotating with three bands that have previously performed in Rochelle. Along with Wed., June 6, the municipal band will be playing on Wed., June 20, Wed., July 4, and Wed., July 25. A special concert is scheduled Wed., July 11. More details will be available later.

“This year’s Fourth of July concert with the municipal band begins at 8:30 p.m.,” Duval said. “The band will be playing the traditional Old Americana and Patriotic tunes.”
As with every year, the band plays until dusk when the fireworks celebration begins.
“Backroads Trio,” which is known for their bluegrass style, is playing on Wed., June 13. The band, “Footstompers,” is playing on Wed., June 27. This band plays reggae and a blend of different types of music. The Weber Family jazz combo band returns to the bandshell on Wed., July 18. All of these bands begin playing at 7:30 p.m.
“The summer concert culminates with the Youth Band, directed by Paul Madere, on Wed., Aug. 1 with the municipal band following,” Duval said.
