ROCHELLE — Warm temperatures, bright sunshine, and plenty of fun made for a great opening day Thursday at Spring Lake Pool.
Pool hours are Monday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission fee is $6 per person. Season passes are available: $65 individual, $80 for non-residents. Family passes are $180, and for non-residents $195.
Adult swim is 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday with $3 admission fee.
New this year is the adult triathlon swim training every Tuesday and Thursday night from 5:30 pm. to 7 p.m. through July. Price is $60 and non-resident fee is $65. Drop in fee is $5.
Michelle Antolik, aquatic manager, said Spring Lake Pool will also feature Family Swim Fridays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., new this year.
“The outdoor temperature has to be 65 degrees or above in order for us to allow swimming,” Antolik said. “There is a Facebook page and people are always welcome to call to see if we are open. We now take credit cards at the front desk as well.”
Special events
On Sat., June 17, the Rochelle Rotary Club is sponsoring a free swim night at Spring Lake Pool from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Fathers are treated to an afternoon of swimming on Sun., June 18 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Since Mother’s Day arrived before swimming season, all mothers can swim free on Sun., July 16 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kids are encouraged to bring their moms and dads for those afternoons.
Spring Lake Pools visitors will enjoy some star-spangled fun on the Fourth of July. From 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. the public is invited to swim or participate in a variety of activities for the price of regular admission.
On Fri., July 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is Spring Lake Pool’s “We Can With 3 Cans” event. Bring three cans of non-perishable food per person and get in free.
On Sat., July 22, the City of Rochelle is sponsoring a free swim night from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Lifeguards
Antolik said this year they have 15 lifeguards on staff, with five on duty at all times. In order for everyone to enjoy the pool safely, the public is encouraged to follow the rules posted.
There is no smoking allowed on the park district premises, including the pool area and walking path from Spring Lake Marina. This includes electronic cigarettes.
Water bottles and coolers are allowed. Coolers will be inspected upon entry.
Several refreshments available for purchase at the concession stand include popcorn, candy bars, ice cream, pretzels, pickles, and string cheese. Cotton candy will be offered on certain days.
