ROCHELLE — Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson proclaimed the week of Apr. 24-28 as the Week of the Young Child, which is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The purpose of the annual celebration is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
NAEYC first established it in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years from birth to age 8 lay the foundation for children’s success in school and later life.
Monica Perkins with the Rochelle Child Care Center accepted the plaque presented by Mayor Olson at the April 10 Rochelle City Council meeting.
Part of the proclamation, read by city clerk Bruce McKinney, said the childcare center works to improve early learning opportunities for area children.
“…Teachers and others who make a difference in the lives of young children in Rochelle deserve thanks and recognition,” McKinney read of the proclamation.
