BLOOMINGTON — The Rochelle varsity cheerleading team reached the IHSA State Championships for the first time in eight years this season, and the girls took the floor at Bloomington’s Grossinger Motors Arena for Friday’s preliminary round.
Rochelle placed 22nd out of 25 medium varsity teams with 69.96 points, edging out Morris (69.00), Peoria (66.43) and Sandwich (66.42). The girls took fourth out of 16 teams at the IHSA Bartonville (Limestone) Sectional last weekend to qualify for the state meet.
The team is coached by Trish Rodeghero and includes Cristina Alfano, Lydia Ankney, Teddi Hacaga, Mychaela Hurst, Kayle Johnson, Allison Kalata, Ellie Kinn, Emma Mehrings, Jackie Muraira, Brooke Myroth, Grace Orlikowski, Olivia Ramos, Macey Ryan, Morgan Schabacker, Kelsey Thompson, Abby Tilton, Carly Weiner and Teigan Young.
