Steward students love BUGS

STEWARD — What youngster doesn’t like bugs? Steward Elementary School students enjoyed participating in the BUGS program, capping off the school year with a pizza party on Tuesday afternoon.

“BUGS” (Bringing Up Grades) is a Kiwanis kids program that promotes academic achievement.
Nearly 60 kids received recognition from members of the Kiwanis Golden K for improving their grades for the final grading period. The Kiwanis provided certificates and a one-dollar coin for each of the students.

Guest speaker Jeff Glenn addressed the students and their families, giving inspiration for future career goals. All 57 students’ names were eligible for a $50 savings certificate in the grand prize drawing, which was won by Ephraim Gonser.
Dennis Swinton, past president of the Rochelle Kiwanis Golden K, said the group has been sponsoring the BUGS program for seven years.
“You have shown what it takes to win…you don’t let it happen, you make it happen,” Swinton said to the students. “These are words to remember.”
