ROCHELLE — Rochelle area residents are spending Saturday morning digging out after the northern Illinois region was hit with several inches of snow and high winds Friday night into Saturday morning.
After a snowy late November, the area was experiencing a rather mild December and January until winter returned in full force.
The bustling state highways running through the "Hub City" were not very busy early Saturday, and although snow stopped falling before 8 a.m., winds had not subsided and many vehicles and driveways were blocked in by drifts.
Snow removal crews worked throughout town to get things moving again in the downtown area, including outside of the post office and fire station. Municipal parking lots were also being cleared, while residents broke out their snow blowers and shovels to clear walkways and driveway approaches.
