At its monthly meeting Monday, the Rochelle Township High School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution in support of placing a county facilities sales tax on the March 19 election ballot.

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an amendment to its intergovernmental agreement with the City of Rochelle to extend the entities' joint ownership of Fairways Golf Course through the 2024 season.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, members of the Rochelle Fire Department and the Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District completed training evolutions at the new Joint Training Facility. This was the first training held at the site since construction began this fall. Members completed several evolutions, including hose line advancement, search, ventilation and command functions.

The Rochelle Lions Club recently donated new winter coats and snow pants to Lincoln Elementary School as part of its service to the community program.

HOPE of Ogle County is so very grateful for the community support they have received this holiday season. It received generous donations to assist survivors of domestic abuse and their children including turkey donations, gas cards, comfort and toiletry items for survivors staying in shelter, as well as folks who adopted families and individuals for the holidays.

In honor of National Gratitude Month in November, Rochelle Community Hospital created a gratitude tree.

A Court of Honor was held Sunday, Dec. 10 by Boy Scout Troop 64 of Steward for Scout Caleb Johnson, recognizing his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout in August.

On Monday, Dec. 11, the City of Rochelle presented a facade grant check for $5,000 to Alfano’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant.

At its monthly meeting Wednesday, the Hillcrest Village Board of Trustees voted 3-2 to increase video gaming fees to $250 per machine per year. Trustees Tim Ball and Jose Huerta voted against the increase.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle Elementary School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution in support of county school facilities sales tax referendum appearing on the March 19 election ballot.

On Dec. 9, the Rochelle Township High School Speech team hosted the Rochelle Invitational. Rochelle placed fifth out of the 22 teams competing.

At its meeting Monday, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved an engineering/surveying services agreement with Peralte Clark Engineering for $36,201 for Rochelle Municipal Utilities subsurface utility investigation and potential conflicts along Illinois Route 251 as the state looks at a future reconstruction project on the road on the north side of town

On Thursday, the Community Action Network (CAN) hosted its annual Shopping Trip event for area families in need at the First Presbyterian Church.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the Rochelle Municipal Utilities Customer Service and Finance Departments hosted an open house highlighting recent renovations at the RMU building at 333 Lincoln Highway.

The City of Rochelle Wastewater Treatment Plant produces a waste material called secondary sludge. Since 1993, the sludge, which consists of 80 percent water and therefore is very heavy, has been transported to and disposed of in the city landfill. Over the past couple of years, Rochelle Municipal Utilities Water & Water Reclamation Superintendent Adam Lanning has been researching an alternative to dispose of the sludge: Using it as farm fertilizer. And so, the experiment began.

Rochelle Community Hospital is hosting a holiday drive-thru dinner for anyone in need on Wednesday, Dec. 20. The dinner is free for the first 200 dinners reserved.

On Thursday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church, the Hub City Cruisers car club made a donation of toys to the Community Action Network for its Shopping Trip program.

The Rochelle VFW Post 3878’s Queen of Hearts contest has reached a record $114,285 jackpot, Post Commander Joe Drought said following the most recent drawing on Dec. 5.

The Rochelle Elementary School District and the Rochelle Township High School District will have an item on their December meeting agendas on whether or not they will support placing a county facility sales tax on the ballot of an upcoming election, Shared Rochelle Schools District Superintendent Jason Harper said in an email Dec. 4.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Creston Village Board of Trustees discussed recent progress that's been seen on properties in disrepair in the village.
