Over the weekend, the 27th Annual Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival was held in downtown Rochelle. 

Shining Star Children’s Advocacy Center has served children and teens affected by child abuse and violent crimes in Ogle and Lee Counties since 2002.

On Aug. 14 at approximately 12:18 a.m. deputies initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of North Illinois Route 251 and Dutch Road for a traffic violation. Upon further investigation deputies arrested Dilxon Usiel Jiminez Roda, 19, of Rockford, for driving with no license. Roda was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was booked, released, and provided a notice to appear.

On Aug. 13 at 4:32 p.m. Cade Sharp, 23, of Aledo was cited for expired registration. He signed a promise to comply and was given a Sept. 13 Rochelle court date.

Together as they were in life, Donald B. and Priscilla J. Campbell will be buried in a private ceremony on August 20, 2024.

At its monthly meeting Wednesday, the Hillcrest Village Board of Trustees heard an update on its priority 1A water main project, which recently began.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle Elementary School District Board of Education heard an update on recent facility work from District Business Manager Kevin Dale. 

International Overdose Awareness Day, Aug. 31, is the most extensive annual campaign to end overdose. The campaign raises awareness of overdose, which has impacted every community. Too many families have lost loved ones, but this campaign and others like it can save lives.

Crops are growing and I’m sure plenty of farmers out there are looking for a good yield. Only a few months away from harvest with combines running in full gear and grain bins filling up.

The 2024 Ogle County 4-H Senior Master Showman winner was Cooper Alderks from Carefree 4-H Club. The runner-up was Gwen Hall of Ogle Jolly 4-H Club.

Head coach Lizzie Cartwright has been spending time throughout the summer getting to know many of the new players who are competing for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team this season.

The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team returns starters at all three levels this season, which kicked off with the first fall practice on Monday afternoon. Rochelle will host Genoa-Kingston on Monday, Aug. 26 at 4:30 p.m. for its first match of the 2024 campaign.

The Rochelle Hub varsity golf team welcomes back each of its top three players from the 2023 season, when the purple and white finished with a 2-10 overall record and an 0-5 mark in the Interstate 8 Conference. With a young core and a blend of other new and returning players, head coach Glen Mehrings said a winning record is among the team’s goals for 2024.

On Friday, Aug. 9, The Flagg-Rochelle Public Library hosted its End of Summer Reading Celebration, which included water balloons, outside water games and a foam party.

On Friday, Aug. 9, Focus House held its second annual Golf Play Day Fundraiser at Fairways Golf Course in Rochelle. The event was sold out for the second year in a  row and the course was filled with community supporters of the Rochelle organization that provides a continuum of quality services for at-risk youth.

The Dale Bergeson era is officially underway at Rochelle Township High School, which held its first official practice of the 2024 boys and girls cross country season Monday afternoon. An RTHS alum who served as an assistant under former head coach Mark Zilis, Bergeson said he has high hopes for the returning Hub and Lady Hub runners this season.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity volleyball team will look to a trio of returning senior starters for leadership during the 2024 season, which tipped off with the team’s first practice of the fall campaign Monday afternoon. Rochelle will hold two weeks of practices before taking the court for its first match of the season at Belvidere on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m.

The Rochelle Hub varsity football team will have only a few starters to replace from the 2023 season, when the purple and white went 7-3 overall while winning the Interstate 8/Kishwaukee River Blue Division and clinching their third consecutive postseason berth. 

The City of Rochelle's sealcoat project is set to take place beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21 and finishing by 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, resulting in periodic lane closures in several areas.

Ronald L. Macklin, 88, of Rochelle, died Monday, August 12, 2024 at Liberty Village in Rochelle, IL surrounded by his family.  He worked at Macklin’s Quarry in Rochelle for 62 years and was a member of Local 150 Operators.

Robert Justin Aubry, 77, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 in Rockford, IL at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Todd William Ackland, 48, of rural Compton, passed away on August 11, 2024, at the family home and farm of his father, Lloyd Ackland. His final desire was to pass away at the home in which he grew up after fighting brain cancer for almost two years.
