On June 18 at 6:58 p.m. Alvaro E. Mireles, 61, of Rochelle was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant and transferred.

At its June 20 meeting, The Kiwanis Golden K Club of Rochelle accepted a $3,000 donation from Cain Millwork. The donation came from proceeds from Cain Millwork's golf outing.

Don Eugene Hinderliter, 88, a native of Lewistown, IL and long-time resident of Rochelle, IL, passed away on Sunday in Houston, TX.

With cyberattacks on the rise, our data privacy has never been in greater peril. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s work helping keep that information safe has been welcome, including his recent call for Meta to step up efforts to thwart hackers. Unfortunately, even with the best intentions, protections can go too far. And now we need his leadership to set things straight.

The Environmental Protection Agency published the latest edition of the Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks: 1990-2022. The report has been published annually since 1990 and provides an annual estimate of all man-made greenhouse gas emission sources in the U.S. as well as estimates of the amount of carbon trapped in forest and vegetation soil.

The transition into the summer months brings an increase in referrals for the Rochelle Community Hospital Rehabilitation Services Department, Evan Tracy, the department’s manager, said.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Ogle County Board heard an update from Board Member Dan Janes (R-Stillman Valley, District 5) regarding ongoing petition work by Constellation, the owner of the Byron Nuclear Plant, to change the zoning classification of some of its property.

At Tuesday's monthly meeting of the Ogle County Board, Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle presented a critical incident briefing on the June 12 shooting in Lost Nation that resulted in three Ogle County Emergency Response Team members being shot.

The Rochelle Hub football team returned to the field earlier this month for the start of its offseason summer schedule, which includes the annual summer skills camp as well as the annual one-week lineman camp for sophomore, junior and senior players.

Arlene Lois Skaar, 95, of Kings, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024 after a long and fulfilling life. She was surrounded by family.

Leslie Allen Hipsher, better known as “Les”, 76, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Members of the Rochelle FFA chapter attended the 96th annual Illinois State FFA Convention June 11-13 along with more than 5,000 other FFA members, advisors, and guests. With a 2024 theme of “United As One,” the three-day event annually recognizes achievements of Illinois FFA members, elects the major state officer team, and celebrates agriculture. 

On June 14 at 11:40 a.m. deputies responded to 7,000 Block of East Grist Mill Road for a check welfare. Upon arrival at the residence, deputies were met by several aggressive dogs that began attacking them. At that point, the homeowner, later identified as Richard L. Eraas, 62, of Chana, emerged from the garage and started to yell at deputies. Eraas lunged at and attacked one of the deputies. Eraas was taken into custody and transported to the Ogle County Jail. Eraas was given a notice to appear for aggravated battery to a police officer. Eraas was released with a court date on July 3 at 9 a.m. Oregon Fire/EMS assisted the Ogle County Sheriff's Office.

On June 14 at 10:20 a.m. Kaleb D. Ackland, 23, of West Brooklyn was cited for overweight on gross. He was issued a notice to appear with a July 12 Rochelle court date.

Rochelle Township High School District #212 and Rochelle Community Consolidated School District #231 recently announced that Celeste Canfield has been hired as a shared English language learners (ELL) director for both local districts.

Rochelle Township High School has formed a new tennis co-op with Oregon High School for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 calendar years. The two-year pilot program was approved during the RTHS Board of Education’s monthly meeting on Monday evening.

The suspect in a June 12 shooting in Lost Nation that resulted in three Ogle County Emergency Response Team members being shot has been taken into custody and charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder, a Tuesday press release from Ogle County State’s Attorney Mike Rock said.

Rochelle Township High School wrestling standout Roman Villalobos represented the Hub City and his home state this past week, when the rising junior competed as a member of Team Illinois during the 2024 USA Wrestling 16U National Duals in Utah.

The Rochelle Fire Department and the Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District responded to two separate structure fires on Monday evening. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, and eight residents were displaced from the homes due to damage, RFD Chief Dave Sawlsville said.

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Rochelle Township High School Board of Education unanimously approved a $311,307 bid from Law Excavating for an upcoming detention pond reconstruction project.

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to approve its 2024-2025 tentative budget and appropriations.
