The 2024 season was the beginning of a youth movement for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team.

The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team was forced to retool its roster after losing 14 seniors from the 2023 season.

Between a brutal conference schedule and issues with consistency, wins were difficult for the Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team to achieve during the 2024 season.

The Rochelle Hub track and field team managed to conclude its season at the IHSA State Championships for the second time over the last three years.

On Saturday, Rochelle Township High School held its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 outdoors on the football field. There were 209 graduating seniors. 

In schools across the area graduates will be parading across stages dressed in their gowns, hats and tassels receiving their diplomas recognizing them for a job well done. It will be the culmination of years of learning and hopefully they will understand that life outside of the structure of school will continue to teach life lessons.

Substance use disorders and mental health problems impact countless veterans in our local communities. Without adequate treatment or support, these issues spiral quickly out of control. Unfortunately, too many veterans never receive help. 

The City of Rochelle hasn’t seen any recent developer interest in the former site of Hickory Grove at 1127 N. 7th St., City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh said May 15.

On May 25 at approximately 4:12 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at Harmony Road and Pines Road.  After an investigation, deputies cited Merissa Lynch, 24, of Rockford, for driving while license suspended, no insurance and expired registration.  Lynch was given a notice to appear in court. Lynch's vehicle was towed from the scene.  

Sophomore Andrew Nuyen’s historic season with the Rochelle Hub track and field team culminated in his first-ever trip to the IHSA State Championships, where Nuyen took on the best pole vaulters from around the state and walked away with his first state medal.

Rochelle senior Landon Mickley concluded his second and final season of high school track and field at the IHSA State Championships, where he represented the Hubs in both discus and shot put.

Planting season continues at a robust pace as farmers across the area try to hit those optimum planting dates. As for me I failed in that regard this year.

My last article covered pregnancy rates and why new laws, in many states, have been enacted to control women and their pregnancies.  That article was written with women in mind. I promised, however, that I would write this next one with men in mind.  Now I keep that promise.

Rochelle Township High School Assistant Principal Dr. David Perrin will be retiring at the end of the school year this month. 

The Illinois Secretary of State Mobile DMV will be at Rochelle City Hall at 420 N. 6th St. on Wednesday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rochelle Rotary Club recently donated $1,500 to the Rochelle Township High School Library-Media Center for the 2024-2025 school year.

On May 20 at 4:45 p.m. James W. Wagner III, 27, of Rockford was cited for disregarding a traffic control device, expired registration and operating an uninsured vehicle. He signed a promise to comply and was given a June 21 Rochelle court date.

On May 20 at approximately 4:29 p.m. deputies responded to a disabled vehicle at Illinois Route 64 and Chana Road. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Destini Evans, 25, of Chicago, for driving while license suspended. Evans was released on a notice to appear and shall appear in court at a later date.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Ogle County Board approved the setting of elected official salaries for the Ogle County circuit clerk and coroner through fiscal year 2028 by a vote of 14-8 with one board member abstaining. 

Last month in April, the Rochelle Christian Food Pantry served 645 families (2,177 individuals total), which broke a record for the most need the pantry has seen, RCFP Manager TyAnne Unger said. In April 2023 it served 498 families and in April 2022 it served 326 families. 

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team had its season come to a close on Tuesday evening, when the purple and white hosted the IHSA 3A Rochelle Regional Semifinals against Sycamore.
