First, let’s look at some statistics.  United States pregnancy rates declined between 2010 and 2019.  They continue to decline in this current decade.  It has been a trend at least since 1991 according to the CDC.  

On Saturday, the Cinco de Mayo Rochelle festival was held in the downtown area. The event, presented by Rochelle's Hispanic Community Association, was free to enter and featured live music, dancing, children's activities, Ballet Folklorico, a petting zoo, craft vendors, food vendors, DJ Sanchez Mix and a Quince Pageant.

Local taxing bodies have had recent conversations about a potential incentive program to help with a shortage of homes in the area, Rochelle Mayor John Bearrows said April 17.

On May 2 at 5:19 a.m. Alfredo Ayarde Chacon, 31, of Rockford was cited for speeding 49 miles per hour in a 39 miles per hour zone. He signed a promise to comply and was given a May 24 Rochelle court date.

On May 6, Rochelle Township High School held its annual honors night recognizing students for academic achievement and presenting over $175,000 in local scholarships.  

On May 3 at approximately 7:49 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop within the 110-mile marker of Interstate 39 northbound. After an investigation, deputies placed Malayiah R. Stewart, 20, of Rockford, under arrest for driving while license suspended. Stewart was released from the scene with a notice to appear in court.

Gene Benton Endthoff, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 8:08 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Michael John Vanderpool, age 82 passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 in the presence of his family and the loving hands of Serenity Hospice and his Lord and Savior. 

The Forge Wrestling Club sent 16 athletes to the 2024 Illinois Freestyle State Championships over the weekend, with two athletes taking home state titles in the tournament.

Rochelle Little League held the 2024 Opening Day Ceremony at Floyd J. Tilton Park on Saturday morning.

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team began its final Interstate 8 Conference series of the season on Monday, when the purple and white squared off against Ottawa. 

Freshman Emma Heller held the Kaneland offense in check on Monday, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team battled the Knights in Interstate 8 action.

The Rochelle Lady Hub track and field team competed in the Interstate 8 Conference Championships on Friday afternoon, with the purple and white scoring 155 points to take home the title at the JV level.

The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team continued nonconference action with a road match against Princeton on Friday evening.

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team scored a memorable Senior Night win Friday evening, when the purple and white took on the Marengo Indians in nonconference play.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team scored five runs over the first two innings as the girls looked to take their nonconference game against Indian Creek on Friday.

The Rochelle Township High School bass fishing team competed in the IHSA Sectional at Shabbona Lake on Thursday afternoon, finishing eighth out of 12 schools with a final total of 2.28 pounds.

The Rochelle Municipal Utilities electric department was recently recognized by the American Public Power Association (APPA) for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2023. 

At the end of the school year, Rochelle Township High School School Psychologist Chris Roberts will retire after serving at the school since 2007. 

On April 30 at 1:05 p.m. Ple Reh, 20, of Rockford was cited for speeding 68 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone. He signed a promise to comply and was given a May 24 Rochelle court date.

Rochelle Township High School recently announced the Critical Thinking Award recipients for January/February and March 2024.

On May 1 at approximately 5:44 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Washington Street and Jones Terrace in Oregon. After investigation, deputies placed Jared Mathias, 25, of Baileyville under arrest for driving while license revoked. Mathias was additionally issued citations for operating an uninsured vehicle, operation of a vehicle when the registration is suspended, and no rear splash guards.  Mathias was transported to the Ogle County Jail, where he released on a notice to appear and given future court date.

Irene Margaret Behrends passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Manor Court, Rochelle, IL.

Rose Marie Larsen, 92,  passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon surrounded by her loving family and friends.
