On March 15 at 12:46 p.m. Angelle C. Pottinger, 22, of Oregon was cited for no valid registration. She signed a promise to comply and was given an April 26 Rochelle court date.

On March 15 at approximately 4:32 p.m. deputies responded to a call of criminal trespass to a residence in the 800 block of North Devils Lane in rural Byron. While en route, deputies were further advised by dispatch of a domestic problem in the 5,400 block of North River Road involving the same male offender.  After investigation, deputies placed Clifford Swanson, 56, of Byron, under arrest for criminal trespass to a residence (class four felony), criminal trespass to a residence, and disorderly conduct. Swanson was additionally charged with possession of a stolen vehicle (class two felony) and criminal trespass to a vehicle.  Swanson was transported to the Ogle County Jail, where he was held pending a court appearance in front of a judge.

St. Paul Lutheran School in Rochelle recently released its honor roll for the third quarter of the 2023-2024 school year.

On March 15, Ashton-Franklin Center Elementary School held a ribbon cutting for its new book vending machine in its cafeteria. Students and staff were invited to participate in the event.

Rochelle’s Nehemiah Andronic made history over the weekend, becoming only the second member of the Rochelle Wrestling Club to earn an IKWF state title.

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team teed off the 2024 season with a road game against Freeport on Saturday morning.

The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams traveled to the Westwood Sports Complex for the annual Warrior Invitational on Saturday.

On March 12 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Melanie Humphrey, 44, of Rockford, was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants.  The warrants were both issued for failure to appear by Rockford PD and Dekalb County Sheriff's Office.  This arrest was made with the help from a tip provided to Crime Stoppers. 

On March 12 at 6:55 a.m. Mykhail O. Bartkiv, 52, of Glenview was cited for disobeying a stop sign. He signed a promise to comply and was given an April 26 Rochelle court date.

The Floyd J. Tilton VFW Post #3878 in Rochelle is currently in the process of donating its $67,092 portion of its recent Queen of Hearts drawing jackpot to 14 nonprofit organizations, Post Commander Joe Drought said.

So many people are fed up with our government entitlements.  At least that is what most say to me when we discuss various policies of the federal government. 

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle Elementary School District Board of Education unanimously approved personnel measures including its yearly renewals of staff members. 

At its monthly meeting Wednesday, the Hillcrest Village Board of Trustees discussed the idea of dedicated patrols in Hillcrest by the Ogle County Sheriff's Office with Sheriff Brian VanVickle.

In a press release March 12, the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) announced it has publicly censured City of Rochelle Director of Community Engagement and Assistant to the City Manager Jennifer Thompson for an “ethics violation” stemming from her successful run for a Rochelle Elementary School District Board of Education seat in the past election cycle. 

At the March 12 Kishwaukee College Board of Trustees meeting, the board voted to eliminate approximately $375,000 in student course fees. This decision follows the elimination of nearly $1 million in other student fees — student activity, technology, registration and lab/studio fees — approved by the board in October 2023.

Rochelle Community Hospital wants its patients, specifically those that utilize its RCHMyChart online healthcare portal, to know that a text message sent by OSF HealthCare/Pointcore Partners regarding portal text message alerts is valid, and it is not a scam. Although the text may look misleading due to the text claiming it is from OSF and Pointcore, that is the system that RCH’s patient portal is actually hosted through.

Entering her senior season, standout guard Alivia Henkel was tasked with taking on a leadership role for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team, which also saw a change at the head coaching position for the second time over the last three seasons.

The Rochelle Hub track and field team continued a strong start to the indoor season at the Gary Egler Invitational on Wednesday evening.

Spring is coming soon!  At the library, we are Marching into Spring Break week!  Spring Break is a great time to come into the library and get your library card renewed, updated or replaced so you are all ready for summer. 

You can have fun on St. Patrick’s Day and maintain sobriety. Yet, do not feel pressured to do this, as sobriety is a different process for everyone. Whether you overcame alcoholism, chose to abstain from alcohol, or are newly sober, it’s a unique process.

At its Jan. 22 meeting, the Rochelle City Council approved its first large expenditures for its new Rochelle Municipal Utilities electrical substation project on the west side of town on Illinois Route 38. 

At its meeting Monday, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved two changes to its Rochelle Municipal Utilities billing policies.
