ROCHELLE — Paul Bearrows of Rochelle was announced as the Moose Legionnaire of the Year for the entire state of Illinois on Aug. 19.

The Moose Legion was founded in 1913 for Moose members who wanted to do more for the loyal order of the Moose and their communities. Paul was there on Nov. 2, 1996 for the first Adopt-a-Highway pickup for Rochelle Moose Lodge 903 and has missed few of the four-times-a-year highway cleanups since.

He has volunteered for countless steak frys at the lodge for many years and has helped serve Tom and Jerry’s since 1988 at the lodge. Paul is a lay pastor for the Presbyterian Church, a member of the American Legion and VFW and serves on the Ogle and Eastern Lee County Honor Guard.

He has sponsored over 60 members into the loyal order of Moose and 25 members into the Moose Legion. Since 2014, Paul and his wife, Barb, have been members of the League of Guardians by donating $1,000 a year to Moose charities.

Paul was duly honored for his work for the Moose and his community.
