ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District heard an update report on its Spring Lake upgrades from Fehr Graham Engineering & Environmental during its monthly board meeting at Rochelle City Hall on Monday. The meeting was also held virtually via Zoom.

Fehr Graham Principal Noah Carmichael told the board of commissioners Monday evening that bids for the Spring Lake OSLAD renovations will be received on June 24. The park board will then plan to host a special meeting on Monday, June 29 to approve the bids. Outlines for the $610,000 project, which includes $310,000 in OSLAD Grant funding, were revealed in May.

Wide-scale renovations include the addition of a splash pad, a new 1-meter diving board, a new drop slide that will replace the 3-meter diving board and a new zip line on the shallow end. The rock wall will be moved to the northwest end. Landscaping work will be done to remove timber on the north side of Spring Lake Pool as well as small planted areas inside the facility.

Removal work will also be completed on the west side near the waterfall. The park district plans to add 15 lower-level parking stalls, and Spring Lake Marina will have its current decking and fishing piers removed in favor of an ADA accessible sidewalk and fishing pier, as well as a new deck to match the design of the Spring Lake Pool deck that was built in recent years.

Executive director Jackee Ohlinger provided an update on the progress at the park district recreation center, saying that construction will be done on Aug. 31. Park officials will be moving their offices to the recreation center in September, and a soft opening for members is planned for October before an official grand opening ceremony in November.
