LASALLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team was without several players including one starter on Friday evening, when the purple and white traveled for an Interstate 8 Conference matchup against LaSalle-Peru.
Senior Eli Luxton finished with a team-high 21 points while adding five rebounds and two assists as the Hubs fell to the Cavaliers 73-52. Sophomore Van Gerber and junior Cayden Moore each scored 10 points for the Hubs (10-18, 3-6 Interstate 8), who fell behind 41-24 at halftime before stringing together a dominant second quarter, where Rochelle outscored LaSalle-Peru 20-6 to fight back into the game.
The Cavaliers fired right back with a 26-8 showing in the fourth quarter to close out the conference win. Freshman Brody Bruns finished with eight points and a team-leading nine rebounds for the Hubs, who will conclude the Interstate 8 schedule with a road game against Kaneland on Friday evening.
