Celebrate Veterans Day at the Flagg Township Museum

ROCHELLE – Celebrate Veterans Day at the Flagg Township Museum on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special items, videos and artifacts will be available throughout the day with speakers at 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

Special items on exhibit include the “Veterans Dress” made by Aubrey Headon to honor the 25 veterans of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment who lost their lives in Afghanistan along with a poster featuring photos and details of these members.

Also on exhibit is the salute to “Butch” Halsne poster made by the late Tyler Smith on loan to the museum. Interviews of veterans compiled in 2004 along with historic footage from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the World Wars and the DVD featuring Jim Moorehead and his service on the USS Bluefish will be available.

Comprehensive lists of veterans buried in St. Patrick’s Cemetery and Trinity Memory Gardens, compiled by Lydia Roberts of the Rochelle DAR, will also be available. Several speakers are scheduled at 2 p.m. presenting information on a variety of topics. Veterans and families of veterans are encouraged to attend to share their stories. Biographical forms and suggested questions used by the Veterans History Project are available for sharing memories.
