ROCHELLE — One hundred and thirty four golfers took to Fairways Golf Course in Rochelle Tuesday for the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce’s 51st annual Holcomb Bank Play Day.
The event was luau-themed and along with an afternoon of golf included a photo booth, an infrared camera, a hula hoop contest and a Hawaiian shirt contest.
"This is the chamber's largest fundraiser," Chamber Executive Director Tricia Herrera said. “We couldn't do programs and support members without these fundraisers. The best thing about today is all the business that's done out here on the course. We always say at the chamber when you want a service or a product, you want to know a guy. We want this event to help people know a guy."
Herrera said the event was done last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, but on a much smaller scale with about half the number of golfers.
With Friday’s planned full reopening in the state following COVID-19 restrictions, Herrera said she’s excited for the chamber’s businesses.
"I'm excited we can go to full capacity and we can gather in groups,” Herrera said. “We can do that because the community and businesses adhered to the regulations going into this. They listened, as tough as it was for most of them. They knew the only way we'd get to reopen was to listen to the powers that be and follow the guidelines. And here we are.”
