ROCHELLE — City officials released a statement regarding the water discoloration many residents experienced on Saturday.
“The water is and has been safe to drink, as confirmed by the IEPA,” Jenny Thompson, Marketing and PR Manager, City of Rochelle, said. “Manganese is a commonly used additive in public water systems and although the water may have a dark tint, residents may safely use the water for drinking, washing, etc.”
By mid-afternoon Saturday, crews with Rochelle Municipal Utilities identified and corrected the malfunction at the filter plant, which had caused the problem.
Residents are asked to call 562-4155 if their water still appears dark or discolored.
