Dear Editor,
As most people know, Illinois lawmakers recently passed a budget imposing huge tax hikes. Most notably, the doubling of the gasoline tax from 19 cents per gallon to 38 cents.  Not only was this short-sighted on the part of lawmakers, but it was self -serving and unfair to taxpayers. 
Not only did they increase a number of taxes and impose additional fees upon residents, they increased spending by $40 million on primarily pork items and self-serving projects for colleagues and family members. 

I have had it. Enough is enough. This cannot go on. These lawmakers no longer represent the people of Illinois.  It’s time to make a statement and be heard by those purporting to serve our best interests. A repeat of the Boston Tea Party is in order. We will not stand for these privileged, out of touch people taxing us into a lower standard of living. Obviously, we cannot throw gasoline into the harbor, so another form of protest must be mounted. 
I am asking each of your Illinois readers to join the Illinois Gasoline Party and boycott Illinois gas stations the week of July 1 through 6. This is the first week of the new gasoline tax.  Lawmakers must be shown that we will not stand for any more taxation without legitimate representation in the state Capitol.  It’s a boycott because we can’t throw gas into the harbor.
