Flagg museum hosting special talk series

Posted

ROCHELLE — The Flagg Township Museum is hosting a Chautauqua beginning Monday, March 25.
In the early 1900s, Chautauquas were staged in small, rural communities in an attempt to bring culture and education to the community.
Programs
The local Chautauqua features a program on The Beacon Restaurant, transportation around Rochelle, a travel story, and how a local girl became a well known radio show host.

Scott Stavrakas kicks off the week with Monday’s program on The Beacon Restaurant. Stavrakas will tell the story of the well known restaurant from the point of view of the family that made it happen.
Ken Wise presents Tuesday’s program on transportation. Wise will present the inside story on all the highways, including the electronic one, and railroads that pass through Rochelle.
Terry Dickow will tell about some of the travels he has experienced over the years, and how and why he began traveling during Wednesday night’s program.
Susan Jenner Saunders will wrap up the week with her program on how she became a Central Illinois powerhouse in the radio world. Her interesting career path is a story that will inspire anyone with dreams.
All programs are in the museum, located at Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street in downtown Rochelle. All programs start at 7 p.m. and will last about one hour.
There is a $2 per person admission fee.
