ROCHELLE — Senior Abby Metzger accounted for two of the three wins the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team earned during Tuesday’s Interstate 8 Conference match against Ottawa.

The match began with doubles play, where Metzger and senior teammate Lauren Dyer united for a 6-3, 6-3 win over Rylee Harsted and Brooklyn Byone at the No. 2 court. In singles, Metzger recorded her second victory of the evening, defeating Harsted 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 court. The individual effort from Metzger was a highlight of the match for the Lady Hubs, who fell to the Pirates 6-3. Rochelle (3-10, 1-3 Interstate 8) will host Sterling Newman on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Hubs battled in each of their three doubles matches on Tuesday. Seniors Erin Murphy and Catherine Williams hung tough in their 4-6, 3-6 loss to Zulee Moreland and Yaquelin Hernandez at the No. 1 court, while seniors Sydney Carmichael and Natalie Wagner also showed toughness in their 3-6, 4-6 loss to Reese Purcell and Gabby Cooper at the No. 3 court.

In singles, junior Merit Namaste-Rose was another bright spot for the Lady Hubs, controlling the second set to bring home a 6-4, 6-1 win over Reese Purcell at the No. 6 court. Erin Murphy nearly extended her match to three sets at the No. 2 court, falling just short in a 2-6, 5-7 loss to Yaquelin Hernandez. Lauren Dyer conceded a 3-6, 1-6 loss to Brooklyn Byone at the No. 4 court and Sydney Carmichael fell 1-6, 1-6 against Gabby Cooper at the No. 5 court. Catherine Williams avoided the shutout in an 0-6, 1-6 loss against Zulee Moreland at the No. 1 court.
