STEWARD — On April 21 at 1:44 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on Steward Road, north of Hayes Road, in rural Steward. 

  A Chevrolet pickup, driven by John Zimmerman, 34 of Rochelle, was southbound on Steward Road when it ran off the west side of Steward Road and overturned. Zimmerman was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

 A passenger, Kelsey Crosby, 27, Steward, was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.   

 The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District, Rochelle Ambulance, Illinois State Police and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.  

 The crash is still under investigation.
